Partying at Miss Kitty’s Parlour

Not for the Faint of Heart, this Parlour Offers the Purrfect Escape From Ordinary

There I was standing on stage facing nine pink balloons perfectly arranged in rows of three. With a dart in my right hand I took aim and popped a balloon containing a slip of paper. The MC came over and showed the scrap, which read “show your tits.” I laughed and replied with a simple “I don’t have any.” The gentleman quickly retorted with “Show us your balls then.” I kindly declined while unbuttoning my shirt and gave the audience a little show before collecting my free shot. This is by no means your average way of attaining free drinks.

This is a typical – albeit tame sight you can come to expect at Miss Kitty’s Parlour. The event brings to mind the decadence of clubs of the 70s and 80s, but with a modern flare. Miss Kitty’s Parlour is never the same twice with different themes and new ways to get people drunk. The idea behind Miss Kitty came together from three L.A. transplants from the East Coast. “Our goal from moment one was to entertain people and give them something they haven’t experienced before in L.A.,” said Jame Boulet (half of The Boulet Brothers who are the men behind Miss Kitty).

The party has been going strong for nearly nine years now. The first Miss Kitty events were held at the Parlour Club in West Hollywood, but have since made a home for itself at the Dragonfly. Throughout the years, Jame has seen the crowd constantly change from Asian ravers to a suicide girl phase to a 3 month spurt as tranny central.

For those who haven’t yet experienced Miss Kitty, here’s a play-by-play of an

Make-up and costumes are part of the party at Miss Kitty's nights.

“ordinary” night: Walk through the doors and hit up the bar for a stiff drink. Drink in hand, make your way through the club and check out the theme-centric décor. The dance floor starts to get crowded around midnight which is just moments before the glamorous hosts appear onstage inviting you to get wasted. The night is typically capped off with a performance or competition of sorts where members of the audience are asked to do something in order to win gift cards and, of course more drinks.

Don’t be frightened because the majority of the people there aren’t like those who attend L.A.’s trendiest spots. Being at Miss Kitty’s is sort of like being on Cheers with a generous helping of T&A.

Check your inhibitions at the door if you wanna party at the Parlour.

Itching to try something different? Maybe, you want to dust off that Halloween costume and get in touch with your wild side. Miss Kitty’s Parlour will give you a night you’ll talk about for days, and sights you won’t soon forget. When entering the extravaganza make sure to check your inhibitions at the door. This is not the place for grabbing a drink and hugging the wall.

In the words of Jame, “If you want to have fun, then come out.”

The next event will be taking place on Sept. 17, 2010 with No cover and $2 well drinks from 9 – 10 p.m. The theme hasn’t been announced yet be check out www.facebook.com/bouletbrothers or www.misskittysparlour.com for the latest updates. -Pablo Saldana
