Your Own Style: Vintage is the Way to Go

Diane Steinbach - Monday, December 8, 2008

Not your Mama’s Goodwill or discount clothing bin, vintage clothing and item stores in Los Angeles are anything but hand me down sweatshirts or tennis shoes. Whether you are looking for true vintage gowns from the 1940’s or casual classics from the 1950’s shopping the vintage stores in LA is an event. Although there are numerous options at every price point for treasure hunters like yourself, here are a few faves that will have you cracking open your wallet.

Flounce About

Flounce Vintage is located at 1555 Echo Park Ave., four blocks north of Sunset Blvd., in Echo Park. A lower key vintage store that won’t leave you cursing your sales clerk, Flounce has got everything from beaded purses, traditional 1950’s cardigans and psychedelic dresses from the 60’s. Check it out if you need an unusual accessory or are looking to put together a whole outfit.

Get Your Vamp On

Not a true vintage shop, Revamp Vintage is more of a reproduction company that offers clothing types from the early 1920’s and forward. There collection of 1930’s wear is really nice and can definitely help you stand out from a crowd. You won’t find any bargains here though, but definitely worth a look. You’ll find them at 834 S Broadway # 1200. Call for store hours (213) 488-3387?.

Costumes for Everyday

Ozzie Dots Vintage gets mixed reviews but most shoppers find the shop filled with bargains and hard to find vintage items that will make you smile. Known mostly for their costume stock, you’ll find everyday vintage items to wear as well, so be sure to make it a stop for your year round shopping. You’ll find them at 4637 Hollywood Blvd.

Got a favorite Vintage store? Tell us about it here and share the good news.
